“I find the current situation much more baffling and much less predictable than I did at the time of the height of the financial crisis”. George Soros, July 18, 2011
But although tax records of various Soros-related foundations show at least $28 million in grants to the Tides Foundation and its affiliated Tides Center, most of those donations — including all but one small gift in 2005 — were earmarked for purposes unrelated to Media Matters. Specific earmarks that year, for instance, attached Soros funding to initiatives aiming to restore voting rights to felons, reform U.S. drug policy and outlaw the death penalty.
Soros announced in October 2010 that he would finally make a sizable donation to Media Matters. Open Society Foundations communications director Laura Silber told The Daily Caller on Thursday that “it was a three-year grant, for a total of $1 million. I think the final payment was in 2011.” http://dailycaller.com/2012/02/17/left-wing-foundations-lavish-millions-on-media-matters/#ixzz1moVQecvh
The liberal Media Matters for America organization once accepted a $50,000 grant to monitor and attack religious news outlets, according to tax returns examined by The Daily Caller.
The grant came in 2006 from the ARCA Foundation, a 60-year-old philanthropy that funds Democratic causes. The foundation gave Media Matters the $50,000 “to support a Religious Broadcasting Project to expand the monitoring and fact checking of religious broadcasts,” according to its tax return that year.
Becca Freedman, a program associate at the ARCA Foundation, told TheDC by phone that she could not immediately provide any details about the grant because the executive director who worked there in 2006 is no longer employed by the foundation.
That former executive director, Donna Edwards, is now a Democratic member of Congress representing Maryland’s 4th District.
The details of Media Matters’ religious monitoring project are not clear, but under Internal Revenue Service regulations a non-profit organization must honor any restrictions that individual or institutional funders place on their donations.
Jess Levin, a spokeswoman for Media Matters, did not return an email seeking comment. The organization has not commented publicly on stories from The Daily Caller’s “Inside Media Matters” series since it began Monday http://dailycaller.com/2012/02/16/media-matters-accepted-50k-grant-for-fact-checking-religious-broadcasts/#ixzz1moWJMIix

Details Emerge on Soros’ $1bn Green Investment
http://greenenergyreporter.com/topic/stanford-university/
Michael Vachon, George Soros‘ spokesperson, got back to us. He tells us that details are still being finalized on how the $1 billion will be managed. Will it be via Soros Fund Management, or a yet-to-be-formed dedicated investment company? “No decision has been made,” he writes in an email to GER.
Funding for the Climate Policy Initiative, the policy and idea shop to be headed by Stanford University law professor Thomas Heller and backed by a 10-year, $10 million per year commitment from Soros, will not come from the $1 billion he’s earmarked for green investments. “The Climate Policy Initiative is a separate activity,” Vachon highlights.

Surge in Corporate Patents on “Climate-Ready” Crops / Threatens Biodiversity and Signals Grab on Land and Biomass
Nagoya, Japan — Under the guise of developing “climate-ready” crops, the world’s largest seed and agrochemical corporations are filing hundreds of sweeping, multi-genome patents in a bid to control the world’s plant biomass, according to a report released by ETC Group today.
A handful of multinational corporations are pressuring governments to allow what could become the broadest and most dangerous patent claims in history, warns the group at the United Nations’ Convention on Biodiversity in Nagoya, Japan (18-29 October 2010).
“The Gene Giants are stockpiling patents that threaten to put a choke-hold on the world’s biomass and our future food supply,” warns Silvia Ribeiro of ETC Group. “The breadth of many patent claims on climate ready crop genes is staggering. In many cases, a single patent or patent application claims ownership of engineered gene sequences that could be deployed in virtually all major crops – as well as the processed food and feed products derived from them,” explains Ribeiro.
ETC Group identifies over 262 patent families, subsuming 1663 patent documents published worldwide (both applications and issued patents) that make specific claims on environmental stress tolerance in plants (such as drought, heat, flood, cold, salt tolerance). DuPont, Monsanto, BASF, Bayer, Syngenta and their biotech partners account for three-quarters (77%) of the patent families identified. Just three companies – DuPont, BASF, Monsanto – account for over two-thirds of the total. Public sector researchers hold only 10%.
“In a desperate bid for moral legitimacy and to try to ease public acceptance of genetically modified crops, the Gene Giants have donated a few proprietary crop genes to poor farmers in Africa,” explains Ribeiro.
“The quid pro quo is that South governments must facilitate market access for genetically modified crops and embrace biotech-friendly patent laws. It’s an unacceptable trade-off. In exchange for untested technologies, South governments are being pressured to surrender national sovereignty over intellectual property, biomass, and food,” she warned.
“These patents are the latest form of biopiracy,” notes Vandana Shiva, Director of India’s Research Foundation for Science, Technology, and Ecology. “Farmers have bred seeds for drought, flood and salt tolerance over millennia. Climate resilience ultimately depends on farmers’ innovation, biodiversity and agro-ecological processes staying in the hands of farming communities,” said Shiva.
“Governments meeting at the UN Biodiversity Convention in Nagoya, Japan must put a stop to the patent grab, yet another false solution to climate change. They should instruct their patent offices to reject or rescind all of these patents,” said ETC Group’s Neth Daño, who is attending the meeting. “A fundamental review of all intellectual property claims in agriculture should be jointly undertaken by the CBD and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). These patents also clearly violate the FAO Seed Treaty and its governing body must investigate and take action.”

Chemtrails and Monsanto’s New Aluminum Resistance Gene – Coincidence? Why did Monsanto Develop an Aluminum Resistance Gene? Monsanto is currently marketing an aluminum resistance gene. Small-scale, resource-poor farmers in developing countries face daily stresses, including poor soils, drought, and lack of inputs. Ongoing trends such as climate change and population growth will likely exacerbate binding stresses. A new generation of genetically engineered (GE) crop research aims to alleviate these pressures through the improvement of subsistence crops—such as cassava, sorghum, and millet—that incorporate traits such as tolerance to drought, water, and aluminum in soils as well as plants with more efficient nitrogen and phosphorus use. (http://www.ifpri.org/publication/delivering-genetically-engineered-crops-poor-farmers) http://farmwars.info/?p=2927
Coincidence that Monsanto will “come to the rescue” with aluminum resistance genes because normal plants die off in the presence of excess aluminum? Or opportunistic capitalism and planned corporate food monopoly courtesy of Monsanto and the Hegelian Dialectic based on insider information that a proposed “geo-engineering” scheme is already in place that is filling our atmosphere with chemtrails containing aluminum and barium?
Another thing is enslavement under the corporation. As shown in this article, Monsanto is using downright Mafia/Gestapo methods to scare US and Canadian farmers to buy its GMO crops, which leave no seed corn for next year – it has to be bought from Monsanto annually – and has to be treated with e.g. round-up, which is creating weed-resistance with falling yields. Furthermore, Monsanto has been convicted of false advertising and falsifying test results at research laboratories. Now this affable Corporation is developing aluminium resistant GMO-crops – because alumininium is contaminating the soil from chemtrail geo-engineering the sky!! But now environmental organisations have got a weapon against the GMO-terror http://euro-med.dk/?p=15570
ANSAmed 28 May 2010: A verdict of the European Court, from February 2009, reads that the location of experimental fields with transgenic crops must be made public- after 12 years of secrecy. Starting with the ‘mapping’ of GMO cultivations, the environmental associations in Spain will promote legal action to avoid contamination . They claim that there are no scientific guarantees for the safety of these products for consumer health and for the environment on the medium term. The ecologists denounce the lack of research on the possible environmental impact of experimental cultivations.
Pres. Obama appointed Monsanto´s vice-president, Michael Taylor, to the Food and Drug administration in spite of scandalous experiences in the past with his favouring Monsanto´s GMO products as the FDA’s new Deputy Commissioner of Policy in the 1990es Organic Consumers´ Association: Taylor (now Obama´s food safety csar) published two documents on U.S. aid for African agriculture, both of which were funded by the Rockefeller Foundation. The Rockefeller Foundation funded the first Green Revolution in Asia and Latin America in the 1960s, and in 2006, teamed up with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to launch the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA). There are very good reasons why we have never introduced a Green Revolution into Africa, namely because there is broad consensus that the Green Revolution in India, which was founded on mendacious advertizing, has been a failure, leaving Indian farmers in debt, bound to paying high costs for seed and pesticides, so that they committed suicide at much higher rates, and resulting in a depleted water table and a poisoned environment, and by extension, higher rates of cancer. If President Obama is lacking this information, it is his cabinet that is to blame.” http://euro-med.dk/?p=18440
Monsanto is now imposing Taylor´s “Green Revolution” on Africa – a risky project: The American Academy of Environmental Medicine called for a moratorium on GM foods: “several animal studies indicate serious health risks associated with GM food consumption including infertility, immune dysregulation, accelerated aging, dysregulation of genes associated with cholesterol synthesis, insulin regulation, cell signaling, and protein formation, and changes in the liver, kidney, spleen and gastrointestinal system.”

Soros Vote Counters…
George Soros said he was staying out of the 2010 elections. It appears he wasn’t exactly telling the truth.
After helping Al Franken steal a U.S. Senate seat in 2008, Soros’s ultra-wealthy buddies in the Democracy Alliance, a billionaires’ club that funds left-wing political infrastructure, are spending money to level the playing field for vote fraudsters. (Soros is also funding an effort to take away democratic elections for state supreme courts, as John Gizzi notes in a new Capital Research Center paper.)
Their money is flowing to secretary of state candidates directly and to the Secretary of State Project, a “527″ political committee that can accept unlimited financial contributions that it doesn’t have to disclose publicly until after the election. The SoS Project, which has raised at least $170,836 in this election cycle, is an officially approved Democracy Alliance grantee. Not surprisingly, members of the Alliance are opening their wallets to help secretary of state candidates across America endorsed by the SoS Project.
The purpose of the SoS Project is to destroy the remaining vestiges of electoral integrity. The group endorses left-wing, Democratic secretary of state candidates who have no respect for clean, honest elections.
Political observers know that a relatively small amount of money can help swing a little-watched race for a state office few people understand or care about. Once elected, a leftist secretary of state can help deliver a close election to Democrats as Minnesota’s Mark Ritchie accomplished through skullduggery in the 2008 contest between Franken and incumbent Norm Coleman. Both Franken and Ritchie, by the way, were endorsed in 2008 by ACORN Votes, ACORN’s federal political action committee.
According to reports filed with the IRS, members of the Democracy Alliance gave sizable contributions this year and last year to the SoS Project. Alliance member and SoS Project co-founder Michael Kieschnick, who heads Working Assets, a long distance provider that funds so-called social justice projects, gave $10,000. Office furniture heir John R. Hunting, who is also an Alliance member, kicked in $20,000.
Democracy Alliance member Paul Rudd — not the comic actor — gave $10,000. Heiress Pat Stryker gave $25,000 and financier Nicholas Hanauer gave $5,000. The McKay Foundation, headed by Taco Bell heir and Alliance chairman Rob McKay, donated $10,000.
Two individuals with close ties to the Democracy Alliance also gave the SoS Project money in the same period. Elizabeth “Liza” Pike, wife of Drummond Pike, gave $2,500. Drummond is the founder of the uber-radical Tides Foundation and treasurer of the Alliance. Lawrence Litvak, chairman of the board of Tides, gave $239.
Former community organizer Ritchie is up for reelection this year. Four Democracy Alliance members gave his campaign money: real estate heiress Patricia Bauman ($250); child psychologist Gail Furman ($200); career activist Megan Hull ($500); and lawyer Scott Wallace ($500). Contributors to Ritchie’s 2006 campaign included Soros, Drummond Pike, and veteran community organizer Heather Booth, a Saul Alinsky disciple who co-founded the Midwest Academy, a radical school that breeds Marxist agitators.
The SoS Project is endorsing Jocelyn Benson, candidate for secretary of state in Michigan, whom it lauds as an “[e]lection law scholar and community organizer.” Benson hardly needs the help: she’s raised an eye-opening $802,273 so far, according to state campaign filings.
Frances Kieschnick gave Benson $1,000. She is the wife of Michael Kieschnick of Working Assets, a long distance provider that funds so-called social justice projects. Michael also co-founded the SoS Project and is a member of the Democracy Alliance. (Michael gave Benson $3,400.) Philanthropist and Alliance member Barbara Lee — not the congresswoman — gave $2,000. The political action committee of People for the American Way, an Alliance-approved group, gave $200.
Other Alliance members who have money to Benson: Rockefeller heiress Anne Bartley ($250.00); Patricia Bauman ($750); financier Blair Hull ($3,400); Megan Hull ($9,400); Rob McKay ($3,000); founder of ACORN’s Project Vote affiliate Sanford Newman ($500); and Atlantic Philanthropies executive William J. Roberts ($500).
SoS Project endorsee California Secretary of State Debra Bowen, whom the group describes as “one of the most progressive Secretaries of State in the nation,” was endorsed in her previous run by California ACORN PAC. Alliance members giving her money for this run include Michael Kieschnick, who gave $1,000.
Endorsee Iowa Secretary of State Michael Mauro took in $4,000 from Megan Hull and $4,000 from Michael Kieschnick. Endorsee Colorado Secretary of State Bernie Buescher received $525 from Frances Kieschnick and from these Democracy Alliance members: Michael Kieschnick ($525); software entrepreneur Tim Gill ($1,050); Pat Stryker ($1,050); and from Local 105 of SEIU ($10,600). Endorsee Maryellen O’Shaughnessy in Ohio took $4,000 from Michael Kieschnick and $1,500 from Megan Hull.
The secretary of state candidates the group endorses all sing the same familiar song about electoral integrity issues that we routinely hear from ACORN: Voter fraud is largely a myth, vote suppression is used widely by Republicans, cleansing the dead and fictional characters from voter rolls should be avoided until embarrassing media reports emerge, and anyone who demands that a voter produce photo identification before pulling the lever hates poor people and minorities.

Soros history…George Soros and his progressive new world utopia
Soros and global revolution…
Banking: All of this overlaps with the policies of the banks, on the one side, and also the EU Commission. The anti-nuclear demonstrations are nothing more than “flash mobs,” which are being financed by the London fondi (oligarchical family funds). Campact.de, which is the group organizing in Germany now for a “hot Autumn” against nuclear power, coal power plants, etc., is financed by the European Climate Foundation of the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation, the Oak Foundation, and the Arcadia Fund, which is associated with Lord Rothschild. Hans-Joachim Schellnhuber, who is the advisor on climate issues to Chancellor Angela Merkel and EU President José Manuel Barroso, also has a high post at the European Climate Foundation. Hedge funds, foundations, and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) promoted funding for the hot Autumn, through the principal organizer of Campact.de, Christoph Bautz, who, in 2000, viewed Moveon.org, an organization of megaspeculator George Soros, as the role model in the U.S. for his venture.
Sept. 27—Lord Jacob Rothschild and his Inter-Alpha Group have been caught red-handed yet again, this time actively destabilizing efforts at scientific and industrial progress in Germany. The destabilization takes the form of funding and organizing green-fascist protests against nuclear energy and high-speed rail facilities, both of which are absolutely necessary for Germany to do its part in leading the world away from the brink of a new Dark Age. In this latest installment of our continuing counterstrike against the Inter-Alpha Group and its controllers, we will focus more on motives and method—on why they are out to destroy civilization, and how they go about it. More importantly, we will discuss their extraordinary vulnerabilities. When you set out to defeat an evil force, it always helps to know what it fears most! The method by which this genocidal assault is being funded, is similar to the way the Inter-Alpha Group itself was founded—out of a series of oligarchic foundations and family fortunes. In the case of the Inter-Alpha Group, the seed money came from the old Venetian fondi (family funds), whereas the funding for the fascist assault on Germany comes more from fortunes created by the activities of the Inter-Alpha Group itself. http://www.larouchepub.com/other/2010/3738rothschild_imperial_genocide.html
Soros believes world currency should replace the dollar…
Pharmaceuticals: Some big names have cropped up in a new round of emerging-markets investments. First, there’s Sihuan Pharmaceutical, the Chinese drugmaker that’s going public in Hong Kong. Not only was the IPO fully subscribed on the first day, Reuters reports, but celebrity investor George Soros has committed $40 million to the venture. Sihuan is aiming to raise up to $741 million at a price of up to HK$4.60 per share. Second, there’s the ongoing tire-kicking at India’s Paras Pharma. Local news outlets are reporting that four Big Pharmas have lodged bids for the company: GlaxoSmithKline, Sanofi-Aventis, Novartis and Johnson & Johnson. The bids are ranging between $600 million and $700 million, which is lower than the $1 billion market observers had expected. No word on whether the company intends to sell at the lower price. These are just two of the latest examples of Western investors and companies attempting to take advantage of fast expansion in emerging markets. Maybe George Soros read last week’s IMS Health prediction that China’s drug market will rack up 20 percent-plus in annual growth. http://www.fiercepharma.com/story/big-pharma-soros-emerging-markets-deals/2010-10-12
Soros and drug cartels…one more Soros investment…
Oil: Oil companies are planning on moving their rigs from the Gulf of Mexico to South America off the coast of Brazil where the government is more friendly to energy corporations. George Soros’ principal investments are in oil; one in particular is Petrobras, the Brazilian-owned company. This happens to be the largest investment in the Soros portfolio at the present time. Now that word is out that the facilities of the U.S. Export-Import Bank SA is offering guarantees for loans to Brazil’s state-owned oil company Petrobras, U.S. citizens are beginning to complain. According to CampaignMoney, George Soros has given $3,455,776 to candidates since 1999 and 99.83% were to Democrats…..
The U.S. is going to lend billions of dollars to Brazil’s state-owned oil company, Petrobras, to finance exploration of the huge offshore discovery in Brazil’s Tupi oil field in the Santos Basin near Rio de Janeiro. Brazil’s planning minister confirmed that White House National Security Adviser James Jones met this month with Brazilian officials to talk about the loan. The U.S. Export-Import Bank tells us it has issued a “preliminary commitment” letter to Petrobras in the amount of $2 billion and has discussed with Brazil the possibility of increasing that amount. Ex-Im Bank says it has not decided whether the money will come in the form of a direct loan or loan guarantees. Either way, this corporate foreign aid may strike some readers as odd, given that the U.S. Treasury seems desperate for cash and Petrobras is one of the largest corporations in the Americas. …But it still doesn’t allow the U.S. to explore in Alaska or along the East and West Coasts, which could be our equivalent of the Tupi oil fields, which are set to make Brazil a leading oil exporter. Americans are right to wonder why Mr. Obama is underwriting in Brazil what he won’t allow at home. First, why does Petrobas need loan guarantees to pursue its exploration? As the WSJ notes, it is a very large corporation, which should have the resources to get to the oil on its own. Obama, who has ripped American corporations for their supposed subsidies in American tax policy, now wants to use an empty Treasury to give cash to a Brazilian oil company. Next, Obama keeps insisting that we cut back on our use of fossil fuels. He and his allies in Congress have blocked exploration of American oil fields off both shores for decades, and Obama insists that we would only keep enabling our oil addiction if we started drilling off of our own coasts. Yet he has no trouble committing $2,000,000,000 of our money for Brazil to drill off its own coast. Let American companies do what Obama is payingWho else besides Obama has taken an interest in Petrobras? Brazilian companies to do — drill offshore. We won’t have to pay them money or float them any loans to do it, either. In fact, we will make money off of the leases, while the effort creates hundreds of thousands of high-paying jobs in the US, creating more tax revenue rather than emptying out the Treasury. His New York-based hedge-fund firm, Soros Fund Management LLC, sold 22 million U.S.-listed common shares of Petrobras, as the Brazilian oil company is known, according to a filing today with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Soros bought 5.8 million of the company’s U.S.-traded preferred shares. Soros is taking advantage of the spread between the two types of U.S.-listed Petrobras shares, said Luis Maizel, president of LM Capital Group LLC, which manages about $4 billion. The common shares were 21 percent more expensive than preferred today, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. …Petrobras preferred shares have also a 10 percent additional dividend, said William Landers, a senior portfolio manager for Latin America at Blackrock Inc. “Given that there will most likely never be a change in control in the company, I see no reason to pay a higher price for the common shares.” Brazil’s government controls Petrobras and has a majority stake of voting shares. http://hotair.com/archives/2009/08/18/good-news-obama-backs-off-shore-drilling/
